Deadly Tide (1996) — PC Big Box, Microsoft, French

About the game: Microsoft's cinematic underwater action shooter for Windows 95, developed by Rainbow Studios and released October 3, 1996 as part of Microsoft's holiday 1996 lineup. Set in the year 2500, the player pilots a hydrofighter against biomechanical aliens invading Earth on a mission to drown the world, moving from sunken ships to alien mining operations to open sea battles. Like Rainbow's earlier rail shooters The Hive and Ravage D.C.X., it layers target shooting over full motion video backgrounds with a cinematic score in CD quality sound. The 3D graphics were created by the same Hollywood designers behind the effects on SeaQuest and Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Microsoft even promoted the game on movie theater screens in a PC industry first. Microsoft's own E3 announcement bragged that there is no manual to review, players just pop in the CD-ROM and start playing.
